たしかに欧文フォントのサイズは小さいままでした。
ただ、下記のように付け加えてTeXを起動するとDOS窓に
! Improper \spacefactor.
\@->\spacefactor 
                 3000\space
l.8 \ifnum\@
            ptsize=2
?
と表示され途中で止まってしまいます。
どこか不適切な部分があるのでしょうか？
どのようにすればよいのかお教えください。
