multicolmとepsfileの相性

質問させて頂きます．
\documentstyle[a4j,multicol,eclepsf]{jarticle}
..
\begin{multicols}{2}
..
\begin{figure}
 \begin{center}
  \epsfile{file=system.eps,scale=0.7}
 \end{center}
 \caption{Scheme of system}
 \label{fig:scheme}
\end{figure}

で，platex[version 3.14159]でコンパイルしますと
analyzing system.eps
original: 64mm x 31mm becomes 45mm x 21mm
Package multicol Warning: Floats and marginpars not allowed inside `multicols'
environment! .
というエラーが出て，EPSファイルを認識いたしません［DVIでプレビューできなく，
また，レベルの認識もできません］
ここで，コラムを１コラムにすれば，もちろんEPSファイルは読め，DVIでプレビューできます．
マルチコラムとfigureの相性が悪いのでしょうか．
