figure 環境内に minipage 環境を 2ついれて，それぞれの中に center 環境を
入れれば良いのですが・・・

具体的に，どんなエラーが出ましたか？

なお 2段組なら figure 環境ではなく，段抜きする figure* 環境(「*」アスタリスク付)を
使った方が良いかもしれません。
