次のようなtest.mpを作成します。

verbatimtex
&latex
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{txfonts}
\begin{document}
etex;
beginfig(1);
label(btex $30^{\circ}$ etex,(0,0));
endfig;
end.
#===== ここまで =====
その後、プロンプトから

$>mpost -tex=latex test.mp

を実行してできるtest.1を次のように読み込んで
#===== sample.tex =====
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[dvips]{graphicx}
\begin{document}
\includegraphics{test.1}
\end{document}
#===== ここまで =====
プロンプトから

$>latex sample.tex;dvips -P pdf sample.dvi

を実行し、gvで表示させると、$30^{\circ}$の
\circが表示されません。

txfontsからmathptmxに変更すると\circはきちんと表示されます。

いったいどこで引っかかっているのでしょうか。

環境：Vine Linux 2.6r1 FTP
teTeX-2.0.2を使っています。
